The twists and turns of my career
London based journalist turned blogger and stylist

I always wanted a career that would take me outside the confines of office walls. When I saw my name in print for the very first time in my University Newspaper, it became a life changing moment for me. I was a confused anxious 18-year-old college student stumbling around with no idea of what I wanted to do.

Writing my first story and then seeing it in print was so exhilarating and exciting for me. It was like someone had switched on a light and I could see a dream to chase.

For this particular newspaper story, I had been asked by my editor to travel from Cork to Dublin by train and interview a famous TV and radio personality. I will never forget that train journey, a young student absolutely terrified of making an idiot of herself.

My interviewee was due to speak later in the month at a much talked about debate in our university. And I was being sent ahead of this to get the measure of him and write my first story. He was famous for his punchy personality, his take no prisoner attitude and his controversial opinions.

It was like someone had switched on a light and I could see a dream to chase.

I met him in a radio studio before his morning talk show and my hands were trembling in fear and excitement. Could I even get my pin to write, my dictaphone to work and my mouth to speak ? I inhaled and got my questions out. He was kind enough to take it easy on the naive student sitting there. But after that deep end introduction, I was firmly bitten by the bug and knew I wanted to be a newspaper journalist.

That was over 20-years ago. Working in media and meeting lots of wonderful and not so wonderful people has made me who I am today. It also introduced me to my husband and finally brought me to London where I live today.
